Plant Health Progress
Editor's Pick
The
soybean cyst nematode (SCN) is an economically
important pathogen of soybean in the U.S.A.
Resistant cultivars have been developed from a
single plant source. In
this month’s pick, a survey of soybean fields in
Illinois by T. L. Niblack and coauthors revealed
that 70% of the populations of SCN have adapted to
this resistance at some level, reducing the
effectiveness of SCN-resistant cultivars as a crop
management tool. Recommendations are presented to
slow down this adaptation.
